We begin with an intake discussion to help clarify why you are seeking OT services for your child and how we can help. During this call, we answer your questions and provide you with information about the OT process. If we find that OT is not the appropriate service for your child, we won’t waste your time—we will suggest appropriate referrals to address your child’s needs.
Our initial consultation is free of charge.
We will have you complete our online screening forms to give us a better sense of your child. We will also ask you to provide us with any relevant records or reports. After review of this information, we will recommend an evaluation plan.
All services begin with an evaluation so that we understand your child’s strengths and challenges as well as where his or her skills are at right now. This information will enable us to develop a plan of action and also to measure growth.
If you have a current evaluation from another OT, we may be able to use the existing report to get services started. We will let you know about any additional data we might need to have a complete picture of your child. Then, we will agree on a plan for obtaining the extra information. Often, this involves 1-2 diagnostic sessions—meetings where we both work with your child and also complete any needed assessments.
We do our best to accommodate every family’s particular scheduling needs and to schedule evaluations in a timely manner. When scheduling evaluations, we are also mindful of a child’s particular needs (e.g. nap time, meals, etc.). Please keep in mind that after school hours tend to be in high demand. We appreciate your patience and flexibility during the scheduling process.
